Sports Counselling Psychotherapy in Sport & Exercise

Sports counselling provided by counsellor Simon Cook a psychotherapist specialising in sport and exercise mental health. Emotional support for athletes, sports performers and those who enjoy exercise on a more casual basis.

Sports Counsellor

As a sports counsellor my role is to support your overall mental wellbeing which in turn will allow your exercise and sport to benefit. I’m not a performance coach, I won’t provide visualisation techniques or tips on how to directly improve your sporting output. Instead we will work on the parts behind the scenes that might be plaguing your life overall. For example, the doubts, the pressures, the fears, the anxious thoughts, personal relationships and the identity of who you are rather than just being someone who’s always been good at exercise.

Counselling in sport and sports psychotherapy are ways to explore your mental wellbeing overall and notice how any unhelpful thoughts, feelings and behaviours in life are also effecting your sporting performance.

Counselling in Sport

Counselling in sport and exercise can help with issues such as self esteem, self confidence, anxiety, depression and facing the challenges that are unique to being in the world of sport. Exercise counselling can help with the difficult feelings when trying to cope with injury or after experiencing disappointing performance in competition for example.

As a sports counsellor I have relevant experience as a qualified therapist and also someone who has been in and around the world of sports and exercise for over 25 years. As a former semi-professional athlete I gained a degree in Sports Science and majored in Sports Psychology. I continue to lead a very active life today and I have a deep understanding of the critical relationship between physical and mental health.

I provide sports counselling online or at my therapy room in Basingstoke, Hampshire. Contact me to see how I might be able to help and I look forward to meeting with you soon.
